Western Michigan University

Located in the heart of Detroit, Michigan, just across the river from Canada, Wayne State University is one of the premier public, urban research universities in the United States. Academic excellence and pioneering research are central to our mission and a primary reason why students choose WSU.

A leader in STEM fields since 1868, Wayne State holds the Carnegie Foundation’s highest classifications for research and community engagement, with annual research expenditures of more than $221 million. WSU is a member of the University Research Corridor along with the University of Michigan and Michigan State University, generating 95 percent of research in the state.

WSU offers nearly 350 degree programs in fields such as engineering, pharmacy, business and nursing. Our faculty members are renowned for innovation and expertise in their fields, crafting hands-on curricula to take students out of the classroom and into the real world. We’re increasingly known for our interdisciplinary research in areas such as health sciences and disparities, the environment, manufacturing, entrepreneurship and data analytics.

Our 27,000 students come from all 50 states and 80 countries. Highly qualified international undergraduates are eligible for merit-based scholarships at a variety of levels, as well as the #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship.

If you meet all admissions requirements except the minimum level of English proficiency, you may be eligible for conditional admission through the English Language Institute (ELI), which is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation. Once you achieve English proficiency through WSU’s ELI, you can pursue admission to your intended degree program without the need to submit standardized language tests such as TOEFL, iBT and IELTS.
