A Top 25 public research university with a reputation for excellence that’s known worldwide, Clemson University leads the way in providing a hands-on education—in the lab, in the arts, and in the field. Clemson was founded in 1889 with a mission to be a “high seminary of learning” dedicated to teaching, research, and service. Today, Clemson is one of the country’s most selective public research universities, and these three concepts remain prevalent, providing the framework for an exceptional educational experience.
Clemson offers more than 80 undergraduate and 119 graduate degree programs through seven academic colleges: Agriculture, Forestry, and Life Sciences; Architecture, Arts, and Humanities; Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences; Business; Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences; Education; and Science.
Clemson is committed to world-class research and is ranked in the highest research university category by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The University is also invested in the success of its students. Student retention at Clemson is consistently more than 90 percent. Much of this is due to the Academic Success Center (ASC). Established in 2001, the ASC has been recognized nationally and internationally by organizations related to tutoring, supplemental instruction, and collegiate learning. The ASC moved into a new, 35,000 square-foot facility in 2012 where it offers free one-on-one tutoring services for more than 80 courses and provides tutoring for additional courses as the need arises. Peer-assisted learning, academic skills workshops, and academic counseling are also available—free to all Clemson students.
Clemson’s over 24,000 students can participate in a wide variety of activities outside the classroom. The more than 400 campus clubs and organizations include fraternities and sororities, as well as honorary, international, military, performing arts, political, professional, religious, service, social interest, special interest, sports and fitness, and student media programs and other activities. With 19 championship level intercollegiate sports, Clemson offers exciting spectator sports year-round.
Clemson is located in a less than 2 hour drive between two major US cities Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC. Our scenic campus is located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the 100 mile shores of Lake Harwell which adjoins to a 17,000 acre research forest.
