I really think there is a need for US to help in deciding what education they should take so that there is an assurance they will get a job after they graduate. They should also be allowed to work in Iraq after they graduate to be able to teach in their country and help improve the community.

I asked Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki when he visited Washington DC in July why he is supporting Iraqi sending students to the United States for college instead of helping the Iraqi people who are already here struggling to further our education. We left Iraq for a reason-to get away from Saddam. We had to leave our families in order to make a better life. We try to financially support our families from another country. We need education to go back to Iraqi and rebuild. Why send other people from Iraq when we are here already? I am not against anyone getting better education, but let's look at the bigger picture and the current situation. Is this the respect we get from the Iraqi government? We want to get back to Iraq but how are we to get back? We don't have a chance. The government is not giving us a chance to share our experience and make a better life. How can we go back and work in a meanial job?

How are the students being advised toward specific "right fit" colleges in the U.S.? Are they receiving any career counseling or help deciding what to study? Are the scholarships based on which professions the country needs? Are they required to return to Iraq after graduation?

I was wondering if there was a need for U.S. college consultants to help in this process - either volunteer or paid.

I have heard the program has been canceled due to the global financial crisis. Is this true?
